NEW DELHI, Jan 22: Former Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Saturday slammed the Modi government for curtailing the people's rights from day one.
"What is the meaning of the world's biggest democracy sans the people's rights," he asked in a Twitter post.
"Can you imagine an India without these and the fundamental rights?"
Rahul listed various rights ushered in by the Congress-led United Progressive Government (UPA). They are:
-- Right to food, to ensure nobody faces hunger.
-- Right to education, to ensure every child goes to school for a better future for himself and for the nation.
-- Right to employment, a guarantee given despite strong objection of the BJP and which helped the people even in the difficult time of Covid.
-- Right to information (RTI), also given by the UPA to people question the government and get replies. Transparency is the second name of democracy.
Rahul wanted to know which of these rights are objected by Prime Minister Modi and why?
