NEW DELHI, Sep 11: The agitating farmers on Saturday lifted their 4-day-long dharna before the mini-secretariat in Karnal town of Haryana Government, following the government yielding to institute a judicial probe by a retired High Court judge into the lathi-charge on the farmers there late last month that caused two deaths.

The Haryana Government also agreed to send on leave the sub-divisional magistrate (SDM), an IAS officer, who had ordered police to break the heads of the protesting farmers, until the completion of the judicial probe. It also agreed to provide government employment to two family members of the farmers killed in the lathi-charge.

Haryana Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU) leader Gurnam Singh Chaduni announced end of the farmers' "gherao" of the Hisar min-secretariat of the state government after the government signed an agreement as agreed in the negotiations.

The farmers celebrated this as their first victory, saying this will give strength to their ongoing protests at Delhi borders for almost last one year to press for repeal of the three anti-farmer laws enacted in Parliament in September last year.
