Upsurge in Covid cases in 5 states

NEW DELHI, Mar 02: Five states on Tuesday accounted for 80% of new Covid cases, with Maharashtra accounting for the highest 6,397, followed by 1938 in Kerala, 633 in Punjab, 474 in Tamil Nadu and 427 in Gujarat.
Maharashtra also accounted for 30 Covid deaths in the past 24 hours, followed by 18 in Punjab and 13 in Kerala, while no fatality was reported in 19 states and Union Territories. There were 91 deaths in 24 hours, raising the death toll to 1,57,248, which is 1.41% of 1.11 crore detected with the positive symptoms.
India’s total Active caseload stands at 1.68 lakh (1,68,358) today as the country added 12,464 new cases in the last 24 hours. The country’s present active caseload now consists of 1.51% of India’s total Positive Cases. Five states account for 84% of the total active cases in the country, with Maharashtra accounting for 46.82% and Kerala 28.61%.
Six States/UTs have a weekly Positivity Rate higher than the national average of 2.00%. Maharashtra leads all the states with a weekly positivity rate of 10.02%.
A total of 1,48,54,136 vaccine doses have been administered until 7 AM on Tuesday, including 1,82,999 senior citizens on the first day of vaccination for them from Monday. This figure is expected to cross 1.50 crore by Tuesday night. More than 1.08 crore people have recovered so far, with 12,464 patients recovered and got discharged in the last 24 hours. India's recovery rate is 97.07%.
Maharashtra topped with the maximum 5,754 single day recoveries, followed by 3475 in Kerala and 482 in Tamil Nadu. Punjab, Gujarat and Karnataka are three other accounting for 87% of the new recovered cases in the country.
Ninteen states/Union territories which did not report any Covid-19 deaths in the past 24 hours are: West Bengal, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Jharkhand, Uttarakhand, Bihar, Lakshadweep, Ladakh (UT), Sikkim, Tripura, Manipur, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Nagaland, A&N Islands, D&D & D&N and Arunachal Pradesh.
