Unseasonal hailstorm damages crops in Rajouri

RAJOURI, Sep 25: Unseasonal hailstorms destroyed crops and vegetables in many areas of Kotranka sub district of Rajouri on Friday. Hailstorm continued rained for more than an hour and left behind a trail of destruction to crops and vegetables particularly. Drain water flooded and surges in many shops in Kotranka market, according to local news agency KNS.
The distressed farmer community of Kotranka has appealed for immediate assessment of the crop damage caused due to severe hailstorms in various areas of Kotranka subdistrict areas including Mohra, Draj, Jaglanoo, Hubbi, Kandi, Targain, and many other area which are badly affected by hailstorm. The farmers have urged administration for compensation.
Crops are the only source of living for farmers and that has been destroyed today said one farmer namely Altaf Hussain.
Mohd Shakeel a nomadic man was quoted by the KNS as saying “that nomadic families suffer the most during natural disasters and most of the time their livestock gets lost”. He also said that there is fear of big loss of livestock in the upper reaches.
