4 injured at encounter site as unexploded device blows up
SRINAGAR, Sep 25: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir zone Vijay Kumar, on Friday said that security forces successfully neutralised two top Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) commanders including a foreign militant in Sirhama Anantnag gunfight.
Addressing media persons at Police Control Room (PCR) Srinagar, IGP Kashmir said two top militant commanders of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) have been killed in Sirhama area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district where joint forces laid a cordon after receiving credible inputs about the presence of militants in the area, according to an official statement.
Kumar said one of the militant killed in the gunfight was identified as Abu Rehan, a native of Pakistan, who was active since March 2019 while another slain was identified as Adil Bhat, also a LeT commander. He said Adil was involved in the attack on two policemen in Nowgam area of Srinagar district on August 14.
Four youth sustained injuries after an unexploded device went off at Sirhama area of Bijbehara -Anantnag, the gunfight site where two LeT militants were killed in the morning today, according to KNS report.
Of the four injured, two were referred to Srinagar for specialized treatment, officials said.
According to another news agency, KNO, the incident took place as a group of people were clearing debris from the house razed to the ground during the gunfight where two militants were killed.
“The banners were already erected there, appealing people not to venture near the spot. While we sanitized the area, there seems that some explosive had been left unnoticed, which these persons fiddled with, leading to the blast,” he said, adding that four persons were injured and have been hospitalized.
The injured were identified as Muhammad Yasin Rather, of Sirhama, Shahid Yousuf of Bun Nambal, Irfan Ahmed Bhat of Bun Nambal and Mudasir Ahmed Magray of Sirhama. Yasin and Shahid have been referred to Shri Maharaja Hari Singh hospital Srinagar for specialized treatment.
