SRINAGAR, Sep 24: Even as the Administrative Council on Wednesday approved re-allocation of nearly 2,000 posts for Kashmiri migrants and non-migrants willing to settle in the Valley, under the prime minister’s package for the community, the Kashmiri Pandit Sangharsh Samiti (KPSS) has refused to call of the agitation.
The organisation comprising non-migrant Pandits said today that the statement of the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha is “a mere eyewash”. Talking to Kashmir Times, a member of the KPSS clarified, “We were already eligible by virtue of SRO 425. We are sitting on dharna and our president is on fast-unto-death to seek for separate 500 posts or one job per family to the 808 families out of the 3000 available posts.”
The KPSS sit-in and its president Sanjay Tickoo’s ‘fast-unto-death’ today entered the fifth day. The members said that “we will not call off the agitation till we get a formal written assurance from the government.” They said that till date no person from the administration has tried to contact them.
“Since the abrogation of Article 370 and 35 A, we are facing harassment and isolation at the hands of the Relief Department. Despite multiple directions from the High Court and recommendations from the Central Government through the Ministry of Home Affairs, Relief Department is playing with the life and security of the Non-Migrant Kashmiri Pandits – Kashmiri Hindus living in Kashmir Valley,” Kashmir Pandit Sangharsh Samiti (KPSS) president Sanjay Tickoo had said while starting the agitation.
The administrative council, which met under the chairmanship of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha today, approved the re-allocation of 1,997 number of unfilled supernumerary posts for recruitment of registered Kashmiri migrants and non-migrant Kashmiri Pandits, who are willing to serve and settle down in Kashmir under the prime minister’s package,” a government spokesperson yesterday said.
This re-allocation is part of the 3,000 posts announced in 2015. So far, only 806 applicants have been selected and 1,997 positions remain vacant.
