NEW DELHI, July 31: Angry over the car dealers' association taking the Supreme Court for a ride to allow sale of the BS-IV, a Bench headed by Justice Arun Mishra on Friday barred the registration of the BS-IV vehicles till further notice and expressed anger on a large number of vehicles sold backdated and in March during the lockdown period.
It also sought details of the advertisements by the car dealers since March and fixed further hearing on August 13.
The Supreme Court had allowed sale of 10 per cent of the unsold BS-IV vehicles within 10 days of lifting of the lockdown due to COVID-19 on a petition by the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA), seeking the extension of the deadline of March for sale and registration of BS-IV vehicles for a month to clear the unsold stock of the BS-IV vehicles.
It noted that an unusual number of BS-IV vehicles were sold during the lockdown and showed them as sold on the back dates to escape its order to allow the sale of only 10 per cent.
The automobile manufacturers and dealers are in a fix from the government scrapping permission to the Euro-IV emission standard and go straight for Euro-VI, the world's cleanest emission standard, from April 1.
