AI blames police for violating Juvenile Justice Act

SRINAGAR, July 1: Amnesty International (IA) India today said by disclosing the identity of a minor witness of a crime, Kashmir Zone Police stands in violation of Article 74 of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015.
In a tweet AI also said," It is also a breach of the “best interests of the child” principle as required to be the basis of any action by the authorities under the Convention on the Rights of the Child, to which India is a state party."
Earlier, police released a picture of a cop carrying a three year old kid, whose grandfather was killed in a shoot-out in Sopore. Police said the child was rescued by police and saved from being hit by bullets during a militant attack.
