SRINAGAR, Apr 1: The Jammu and Kashmir government has postponed the scheduled registration process till April 15 in view of the nationwide lockdown to contain spread of coronavirus pandemic.
”The process of advance registration for the annual pilgrimage commencing from June 23 has been postponed till 15 April,” officials said.
They added that new registration date will be announced only after the lockdown stands opened. Anup Soni, Additional Chief Executive Officer of Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board (SASB), informed by tweeting that the registration of the yatra has been postponed till April 15.
Pertinently as per earlier schedule, the advance registration was due from April 1. Like previous years, the SASB has arranged advance registration of pilgrims for this year’s annual yatra through 442 designated branches of Punjab National Bank, Jammu Kashmir Bank and Yes Bank located in 32 states and union territories of the country.
According to the schedule, the 42-day-long annual pilgrimage to Cave shrine of Shri Amarnath situated in South Kashmir Himalayas is to be concluded on the day of Raksha Bandhan i.e. on August 3.
Keeping in view of 21 days long nationwide lockdown till April 14 due to Corona virus outbreak, the advance registration through designated banks has been postponed by the SASB.
In fact, in view of the success of the pilot project of limited number of online registration for passengers in the year 2019, the SASB has decided to increase the quota of online registration.
Considering the safety of the pilgrims, the SASB has also prescribed a mandatory health certificate issued by designated doctors/hospitals by respective state or union territory for all pilgrims before taking up the yatra.
The board has also appealed to all potential pilgrims to get their health checkup done before visiting their Amarnath Yatra and has cautioned that no passenger below 13 years of age and above 75 years of age will be allowed to travel.
