Labour Deptt disburses Rs 1.29 Crore among labourers in Bandipore

BANDIPORA, Mar 30: The Department of Labour today disbursed an amount of Rs 1.29 Crore among Building and other Construction workers as COVID-19 assistance announced by the Central Government recently besides education assistance.
Deputy Commissioner, Bandipora Shahbaz Ahmad Mirza, said that an amount of Rs 81.69 lakh was distributed among 8169 registered labourers through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) as COVID-19 assistance amid lockdown.
He said an amount of Rs 44.29 lakh was also transferred into the accounts of 596 beneficiaries as Education Assistance for the children of labourers while an amount of Rs 3.37 lakh was also disbursed to 28 labourers as disability and minor ailment assistance.
Deputy Commissioner said that the money has been transferred in the shortest possible time so that the labourers who earn from hand to mouth don’t face any problem amid lockdown as all the businesses and construction works are at halt. He said the little contribution from the government will help in easing the problems of the labourers in the current situation.
He further said that the district administration is distributing food packets among the poor, needy and destitute and more than 1500 food packets have been distributed so far. He assured that all deserving people will be covered as soon as possible.
The Assistant Labour Commissioner, Bandipora, Ashiq Hussain Bhat on the occasion, said that the officials of the department are working from home and have disbursed the amount as per the list of the registered workers, in a record time. He lauded the efforts of his field staff for the remarkable job.
He urged the labourers to avail the benefit of various welfare schemes available for their welfare and appealed them especially the unorganised workers and labourers to enroll themselves in the schemes launched by the government including PM-SYM. He said there are several other schemes for the labourers including compensation in case of injury during work, financial assistance to the kids and other relevant schemes.
