Dear Editor,
Due to the outbreak of the deadly coronavirus, the administration has directed the masses to maintain social distancing coupled with restraining their movement outside their homes so that deadly coronavirus can not get spread. But has the administration has taken any steps in this regard about the prisoners who are languishing in the district jail at Ambphalla and Kot bhalwal at Jammu as the condition of these jails are crowded and shabby. Even the High Court reiterated time and again, and also directed the Principal Session judges to check the conditions of the respective jails in their districts. So, at this crucial juncture the maintenance of cleanliness if surroundings is of utmost priority in order to keep the Coronavirus at bay. The families of these prisoners are much concerned about the health of their respective prisoners. Given the large number of prisoners in these jails it apparently seems that it would be really a difficult task for the jail authorities to keep the prisoners in different lock-ups as there is dearth of space in these jails and in these jails the prisoners who are involved in the heinous crimes are languishing.
The families of the jail inmates are particularly concerned because since the outbreak of this coronavirus they don’t know about the well-being of our prisoners as they are in jails. There is no official word from the jail authorities in this regard especially to the families members of the prisoners who are already in distress due to coronavirus spread.
There is every apprehension of outbreak of the coronavirus as reportedly in every room there are around about 20 prisoners and even if the masks, sanitizers are provided by the authorities, still there are chances of the spread of Coronavirus.
Given the alarming situation in wake of the coronavirus, prionsers need to be freed after furnishing the security bond till the outbreak of this coronavirus and those ones who are involved in the heinous crimes can be released on parole.
